Thatched Tiles
Garden Thatch Rooms are roofed using the best quality Cape Reed Thatching Tiles from renewable and sustainable sources in South Africa.

Standard cape reed thatched tileTo create a thatched tile, the reed is pre-cut to the required length and bound along one end using a polycarbonate sheeting and polyurethane mixture.

Thatched tiles are fixed in place by clipping them to an 8mm round bar or cable or, alternatively, nailed to battens at 300mm spacing. This re-thatching method can be applied to many existing garden structures, bringing them back to life. There are two distinct types of thatched tile: Standard Thatched Tile & Top/Heavy Thatched Tile. The Standard Tile - see photo above - is used to cover 90% of all garden structures, straight or round.

Top/Heavy Thatched Tile for circular bulding structuresThe Top/Heavy Thatched Tile is 50% denser than the standard tile and is used to cover the top rows of a circular structure. These tiles are manufactured using a finer quality cape reed which is more compactly bound to achieve this finish.
